The Department of Education is pleased to announce the designation of January as National Arts & Culture Month in our ongoing effort to integrate culture across the curriculum and promote a holistic and inclusive education system.

This initiative is a part of our commitment to empowering students and preparing them to thrive in a diverse world by fostering equity and supporting social, emotional, and cognitive growth. Moreover, it ensures that the richness of Bahamian culture is reflected and celebrated in our education system.

During January, all students from early childhood through high school will participate in a curriculum- wide exploration of Junkanoo, the iconic Bahamian cultural tradition. The Department envisions that skills acquired through this integrated learning experience will not only enhance students’ appreciation of the arts but also prepare them for active participation in a school-wide demonstration and the annual Junior Junkanoo Parade.
